Unlocking the German Clothes Vocabulary

After all, clothes come up in almost every conversation — so you’ll use these words a lot. So, why not use them to practice your German?😉
Learn Them Faster with Plurals
German can be quirky! For instance, “Kleidung” (clothes) is always singular in German, while “Hose” (trousers/pants), which is plural in English, is treated as singular in German. To make learning smoother, repeat the English word, then the German word, and also include the plural form out loud. Eg:
- Shirt – das Hemd (the shirt), Plural: die Hemden (the shirts)
- Trousers – die Hose (no plural for one pair!), two pairs: die Hosen
This helps you lock in both meaning and form, so you’ll sound more natural in German!
