Numbers, Your Next Step In Mastering German
Numbers sneak into almost every conversation—whether you’re talking about time, money, or even your age. If you want to feel confident in German, you simply can’t avoid them.
In Episode 43 of the Better German Podcast, I guide you through German numbers step by step, from the basics to 100, and demonstrate how to use them in real-life situations. Because counting is just the start. What really matters is making yourself understood—when telling someone your phone number, saying what time you’ll meet, or answering “Wie alt bist du?” (How old are you?).
German Number Quirks You Should Know
- When counting, it’s eins (one). But put a noun after it and it turns into ein — which can mean both “a” and “one.”
👉 eins, zwei, drei… (one, two, three) vs. ein Buch (a book / one book) - After 20, numbers flip: 21 is einundzwanzig (literally “one-and-twenty”). Strange at first, but practice makes it natural to the tongue!
